Valentines day!

Love makes the world go round. It is a beautiful and pure emotion; fresh and crisp like daisies in sunshine, deep and strong like the ocean. It is a need,a desire, a want,a fancy ‘created by Allah…

Alas! Come 14th February, love is hijacked and sold like cheap candy that leaves a bad taste in the mouth – but wrapped in very fancy paper…and they call it ‘Valentines Day’

Why have me made love a commodity?

Do we really know the difference between real love and virtual love?

Stop and think.

Does a card with someone else’s pre-printed emotions spell out ‘Romance’ for us?

Do we want to find ‘love’ by following a pagan festival that had a lottery to distribute women for entertainment?

Alhumdulillah, We have an alternative…realistic, constructive and fulfilling.
The Prophet(Salallah-o-alaih-e-wassalam) said: “Nikkah is my sunnah” (Bukhari and Muslim).

Do you really want to fall prey to what media has dictated love to be?

YOU DECIDE.

(Okay, I recieved this as a text the other day and thought I should share…)

Why do we blindly follow the west, its cultures, customs and ways of living – all in pursuit of ‘Happiness’, fun? Maybe we think its cool to act/be like them…whatever be the reasons, I’m tired of it. Not just the west, we follow many hindu rituals too…and proudly too. Calling them our cultural heritage. Is adhering to our Cultural Norms mandatory upon us or Islam? (More on this in my upcoming blog ‘Culture Vs Islam’…inshaAllah coming soon)

In all these vain worldly pursuits, we have lost our true Identity. Why are we allowing non-Muslims to perceive us as a hypocrite/confused nation who have no individuality? Islam suffers because of this.

(Hypocrite because we call ourselves Muslims, but fail to profess our faith. Confused because we follow whatever’s in vogue around us without pausing to find out the repercussions of our actions)

If Muslims were to solely represent Islam, it might not have survived as a religion till now…Astughfirullah. We will be ressurrected one day and be answerable for all our actions.

I ask: Is this real happiness? We are so immersed in being dictated what happiness, peace and success is that we have forgotten their real meanings. True happiness lies in pleasing our Rabb, seeking His pleasure should be our purpose in life…the least we can do is try practicing our beautiful religion Islaam – implementing the teachings of Quran and Sunnah in our lives and inshaAllah then only we can experience true ecstacy and PEACE – Sakinah.

We,Muslims, can never progress as a nation unless we practice Islam. That is our Identity. Hazrat Mohammed(Saw) – the best human being to walk this earth – should be our ideal. He personified perfection. His life was the true implementation of Allah’s word.
Lets resolve to follow His Sunnah and stop immitating the non-Muslim world, inshaAllah.

I’ve attached an article that discusses in detail the Paganistic origins of this festival  for your perusal:  valentine.doc

JazakAllah for reading.

    so ! for now!
happy VALentineS day to me :P
    is it fair now :P
everyday shows my love for myself only :P
    lolx!

  2. It’s not just religion, that’s part of the baggage. We as Pakistanis (not Asians, Muslims or the likes) are a sad sad nation. We need to grow a brain (or perhaps a network), shove off the pompous whatevers, exhale, and start over again.
Becoming religious zealots will only make it scarier — trust me!
(cuz we Pakhtuns have the Talibans headed towards us *yawns*)
And it isn’t just VD, they’re pathetic followers the rest of the year included. XD
I am sorry, I meant “WE”, not “THEY”. =D
And nothing comes forced, we should just pray we each find our own path to Him, individually. Not as followers.

Plus, news tells me even the whole concept of the VD itself is fake, never existed.
    There you have it! ;D

  3. Beautifully written!
You have sure changed my opinion about Valentines Day.
I now look forward to Culture vs Islam :D

  4. Dear Jess,

Of course there is no denying the fact that commercialism has taken over etc etc and Islam does not allow you to blindly ape the west…but besides that…putting all this negativity behind us…these past few months have been so sad for our country and our people and i actually see arund me that people were scared and paranoid and eyeing every other person with suspicion, so if a stupid occasion like V-day bring them joy i don’t see any thing wrong with it…okay i guess i’m contradicting my own self here…but see taking my example..at work everyday the conversation at the time of tea break, early morning and during lunch was always politics and bomb blasts but on v-day people were actually happy and smiling and asked each other so what did u do or what did you give…i came to your house and when i entered your moms room your dad wished me happy valentines day with a big smile…so unlike him and i was so surprised…so cute…some how i feel we’ve become a nation of critics

  5. Hmm. Interesting.

I remember last year my view on valentines was totally different. Debating with Ansir bhai on the fact that expressing love to your beloved only because its valentines day is SO not cool, its just so unoriginal. It might not be sincere even, when you just know that YOU HAVE TO SAY IT.Your beloved(s) would feel bad if you dint and so you just do it. Blah, boring.(He labeled me a 35 plus woman after that convo. haha)

Btw,MA was the most excited about Valentines Day at our place :D , Abbo wished you guys for fun i guess. (Anyways he has generally liberal views on such matters…). Abbo was telling(baj narrated) that Valentines is so widely celebrated in Pakistan and all over the world that soon it’l more festive an occasion for Muslims than Eid(s). (I say it already is :D )

Why is Eid been labeled THE most boring day? Key activities during the day being: Sleeping(rated the highest :D ), Sitting in front of your TV watching the obviously boring/lame transmission(finally gettin tired of it and sleeping :P ), Going (half-heartedly – in the usual cases, to visit your extended family, which your rarely encounter during the rest of the year) and maybe hanging out with friends. Cant really think of many ‘activities’ on Eid day, I wonder why :P

Anyways. The only excitement left is perhaps for Chandraat – applying mehdi, buying choorian etc.

Okay. I can rant on the topic for ages, yet I am included in all these people. Its just that I read this text than the article and it got me thinking, there was also a dars at Sheila auntys place on the topic(that I unfortunately missed but got the highlights)

I’m a hypocrite. I realize it everyday. Astaghfirullah. My Speech rarely(if ever) matches with my actions…

‘O Allah, Please guide me to the straight path and let me be steadfast on it. Verily, You alone can bless your slaves with true guidance,Peace and humility’ Ameen

Psst: I have two midterms tomoro(Change Management and E-Banking), havent studied a word abi tuk! Help me Allah Ta’ala!

  6. Yeah.

Valentines is like the most boring sh*t that happened to 14th feb.

All those who are enough to celebrate it and actually applaud the idea of just a single day for LOVE, should….go hitch hiking maybe! :|

  7. All those who are stupid* enough

    <_<
